New porcelain cups – inspired by delicate Southern watercolors

THE INSPIRATION

Color, light, and the lightness of the South.

What particularly fascinates me about Southern European watercolors is their lightness. Colors often don't appear heavy or fully worked out, but rather transparent, sunny, and almost casually applied.

I wanted to translate precisely this effect into the new series: pomegranates, figs, cherries, citrus fruits, or plums appear not as strict botanical studies, but as loose small compositions.

BOTANY & FRUITS

Fruits meet herbs, blossoms, and branches.

An important idea of the series is the combination of different plants. A fruit does not stand alone but is accompanied by an herb, a blossom, or a branch.

This creates connections such as pomegranate and myrtle, fig and olive, plum and lavender, or dates and orange blossom.

Some combinations appear Mediterranean, others a bit more restrained or almost nostalgic. What they all share is the bright, airy imagery.

THE PORCELAIN

A delicate shape for light motifs.

The new porcelain cup holds 295 ml and appears slimmer and finer than many classic ceramic cups.

I particularly like this for these illustrations. The white surface makes transparent colors appear clear, while the understated shape gives the motif enough space.

This creates a cup that presents itself as rather light and elegant than heavy or rustic.

THE IMAGERY

Sketched rather than fully painted.

The motifs do not thrive on as many details as possible. Lines may remain open, color transitions may flow softly, and parts of the white background may remain visible.

Precisely this reduction reminds me of small travel sketches from the South: a branch, a fruit, some color – and a mood is already created.

A SERIES THAT CONTINUES TO GROW

Not just fruits.

Botany & Fruits is conceived as an open series. In addition to fruits and Mediterranean plants, other flowers, leaves, and botanical motifs will be added later.

The crucial factor remains less botanical completeness than the effect of the illustration: light, colorful, calm, and with enough space for the small irregularities of a watercolor.
