How a bus depot became a Berlin cultural venue
Berlin tells its stories not only in castles, museums, and grand facades. Sometimes they are found in old brick halls, between tall industrial windows, steel, chimneys, and traces of a completely different use.
The illustration shows the Arena Berlin in Alt-Treptow with its distinctive historic brick architecture. The long halls, regularly spaced windows, steep roof forms, and tall chimney give the motif its unmistakable industrial rhythm.
Bicycles in front of the facade, young trees, and small urban details simultaneously bring the historic building into the present. This creates not a nostalgic industrial image, but a typical Berlin mix of old building fabric, new use, and vibrant urban culture.
A piece of Berlin's industrial history
The building complex was erected in 1927 according to plans by architect Franz Ahrens as a bus depot. The large hall was intended for the operation of numerous Berlin buses and was considered one of the city's remarkable engineering and industrial buildings at the time.
Today, the listed area on the Spree is an event venue for concerts, culture, trade fairs, and a wide variety of events. It is precisely this transformation that makes the Arena so interesting: functional transport architecture has become a place of public Berlin cultural life.
Brick instead of postcard scenery
The coloring of the illustration reflects the character of the building: warm brick and terracotta tones meet muted green, light pavement, and a airy blue sky. Fine lines emphasize windows, masonry, and technical details, while the watercolor surfaces give the motif lightness.
This Berlin mug is therefore particularly aimed at people who appreciate the city beyond the very classic sights – at friends of industrial culture, architecture, music, events, and Berlin places with their own history.
330 ml for Berlin between brick and stage
The ceramic mug holds approx. 330 ml and is suitable for coffee, tea, cocoa, or other hot beverages. The white background allows the warm facade colors and the fine architectural details to stand out particularly clearly.
It is suitable as a gift for Berlin lovers, former or current Berliners, concert-goers, culture enthusiasts, architecture friends, and people who associate personal memories with Treptow or the Arena.
Each mug is made only after your order – as a small reminder of a Berlin that does not preserve its past, but always reuses it.
