YOU FIRST.

A forest path leads under an old arch bridge. The scene is calm, almost inviting – at least as long as no one asks who wants to go first.

The title YOU FIRST. transforms the landscape into a small psychological experiment. After all, politeness can have many reasons.

ENLIGHTENMENT.

Between tall spruces, a cleared forest area opens up. Tree stumps, light, and a strikingly wide sky speak of change, intervention, and a remarkably literal form of enlightenment.

ENLIGHTENMENT. is perhaps the most dystopian motif in the series – but without being preachy. The forest now has significantly better lighting conditions, after all.

KEEP IT IN PERSPECTIVE.

A railing, long shadows, and strong vanishing lines turn an everyday situation into an almost abstract composition.

KEEP IT IN PERSPECTIVE. plays with photographic perspective as well as with the small human recommendation to occasionally keep things in proportion. Both don't always succeed simultaneously.

PARTY OF ONE.

A single tree rises above a dense forest landscape. Around it: an astonishing amount of sky and remarkably little company.

PARTY OF ONE. moves between independence, loneliness, and the rather appealing idea of an event where no one is guaranteed to take the last cookie.

A series about looking closely

All four photographs were taken in the Harz in 2022. The focus was not on the classic landscape view, but on the question of how strongly cropping, distance, light, and perspective can change our perception of a place.

Black and white reduces the motifs to shapes, contrasts, structures, and tonal values. Color recedes and allows lines, shadows, empty space, and the different image compositions to stand out more clearly.

The short English titles deliberately do not explain the photographs completely. They provide a thought – and leave the rest to the viewer.

Designed as a set

Together, the four photographs develop a special rhythm: three horizontal motifs meet the vertical PARTY OF ONE.. Dense forest structures alternate with open spaces, graphic lines, and generous negative space.

This makes the set particularly suitable for a cohesive gallery wall, but it can also be distributed across multiple rooms. Living room, study, hallway, or studio thus get individual chapters of the same photographic story.

The photographs are printed using high-quality 12-color Giclée Fine Art technology. This process allows for particularly differentiated tonal gradations and precise reproduction of deep blacks, mid-grays, and bright areas.

Black and white photographs in particular benefit from this fine gradation. The smooth, matte paper surface reduces distracting reflections and supports the calm, photographic effect of the series.

The series is an invitation to look longer than a moment. Not everything is spectacular. Not everything wants to be. Sometimes a shadow, an empty space, a single tree or a bridge is enough for a completely ordinary landscape to behave a little suspiciously.
