KEEP IT IN PERSPECTIVE. takes an everyday situation and turns it into a small geometric thought experiment. The railing runs deep into the image space, light and shadow repeat its lines – and suddenly everything seems to be a question of the right viewpoint.
A question of perspective
The shot was taken in 2022 as part of a photographic series by Mano et Arte. The focus is on inconspicuous places, lines, and situations that gain a second layer of meaning through image cropping, perspective, and short typographic statements.
In this motif, perspective almost takes center stage. The railing draws the eye diagonally through the image, while its shadows create a parallel structure on the bright surface.
Foreground and background alternate between sharpness and blur. This creates a spatial depth that guides the eye through the photograph – without conclusive information about whether everything will actually become clearer in the end.
KEEP IT IN PERSPECTIVE.
The title works both photographically and humanly. Perspective determines what appears large or small, near or far, important or incidental. A small shift in perspective is sometimes enough to reveal an astonishingly different reality.
The image doesn't make a big philosophical event out of it. A railing is quite sufficient.
