Above the Water

The dragonfly hovers over a hinted water surface, framed by tall stalks, fine grasses and loosely arranged plant forms. Its blue-green shimmering body forms the clearest color accent of the scene.

Beneath it are only a few brushstrokes for water and reflection. Small lily pads and transparent blue-green tones are enough to create depth and movement.

Two Sides of the Same Riverside Landscape

On one side, the dragonfly above the water is the focus. The opposite side puts the water iris more in the foreground: open violet blossoms, buds and long narrow leaves grow between grasses and reeds.

When turning the mug, a repeated motif is not created, but a small coherent riverside landscape – once with its flying visitor, once with its flora.

Light Color, Lots of Air

The color palette remains transparent and calm. Blue, green, violet and a few warm natural tones lie loosely over each other, while much of the ceramic's white remains visible.

Precisely this white space gives the motif its lightness. The dragonfly appears almost in motion, the iris blossoms remain soft and the water surface is only hinted at – more a memory of a place than an exact botanical study.
