Maybe we'll just stay five more minutes
The Pacific in front of us. Palm trees behind us. Somewhere, something probably needs to be done – but luckily, there's a bench here.
The Santa Monica California Mug 0.33 l captures this very moment: two people overlooking the coast, warm light, a wide horizon, and that special Californian ability to make an afternoon suddenly seem very uncomplicated.
The gaze turns first to the sea
The illustration opens wide to the Pacific. Bright sand, calm water, and the gently curving coastline disappear in the distance between pale mountains and sky.
A low wooden fence accompanies the path above the beach. In front of it, blooms and Mediterranean-like coastal plants grow. Nothing pushes itself into the foreground – the landscape is allowed to simply remain landscape.
And then the palm trees appear
Turning the mug further, the wide coastal view becomes a small scene. Tall palm trees stand along the path, agaves and low plants line the area, several benches invite you to sit.
On one of them, two people have already made the right decision. They sit facing the coast and don't seem particularly concerned that a clock might be ticking somewhere.
Precisely such casual moments form the core of the design: not a grand event, but a piece of everyday life that suddenly becomes memorable due to place, light, and perspective.
California Still – not every story needs a plot
The motif belongs to the visual world of California Still – 1960s Life. The series does not seek spectacular sights, but rather quiet scenes of an idealized Californian life.
People sit, walk, look at the sea, or almost disappear into the landscape. Architecture, nature, and small everyday situations are given the same importance.
Santa Monica appears here not as a loud beach backdrop, but as a place between the sea, park landscape, and an afternoon that has no ambition to be particularly productive.
Almost like an old memory
The color palette remains deliberately muted. Cream and sand meet pale blue, muted green, warm earth tones, and small accents of red and violet.
The watercolor-like elaboration allows contours to soften in places and gives the motif the appearance of an older travel illustration or a memory where not every detail has to be exact anymore.
Narrow geometric ornaments set small retro accents on the sides and visually connect the illustration with the other motifs of the California series.

And if there's no bench available overlooking the Pacific, at least there's still the coffee mug.
